The BMW M2 Competition F87 is one of the most exciting modern M cars. Short wheelbase, rear-wheel drive, compact proportions and the S55 twin-turbo engine make it a serious platform straight from the factory.
But when the car is pushed hard on circuit, the factory compromises become clear. The stock BMW M2 Competition is fast, but it was still designed as a road car first. Heat management, suspension compliance, braking capacity, driver support and overall weight all become limiting factors once lap times start to matter.
At ATOMIC-SHOP, this project was not about chasing one impressive dyno number.. The goal was much more useful: build a sharper, more consistent and more predictable track-focused BMW M2 Competition F87.
The result is a carefully developed package combining TTE turbochargers, EVENTURI intake efficiency, AKRAPOVIČ exhaust flow, ÖHLINS suspension control, MILLWAY geometry hardware, PFC braking components, RECARO seating and ARD safety solutions.
Power Package: TTE740+, EVENTURI and AKRAPOVIČ
The S55 engine already gives the BMW M2 Competition a serious foundation. It has strong torque, solid tuning potential and a proven motorsport connection. But for this build, the objective was not just peak power. The aim was to create power that could be used repeatedly on track without compromising response or reliability.
The factory turbochargers were replaced with TTE SW10076.1 TTE740+ Upgrade Turbochargers. This upgrade significantly increases airflow capacity and gives the S55 more room to produce power higher in the rev range. For a short-wheelbase rear-wheel-drive car, this kind of power has to be supported properly. Otherwise, it becomes difficult to use.
On a build of this level, turbocharger upgrades only make sense when supported by proper calibration, fuel quality, cooling strategy and drivetrain monitoring.
To feed the turbochargers, the car uses the EVENTURI EVE-M2C-CF-INT Carbon Intake System. The purpose here is not only sound or visual impact. The Eventuri system replaces the factory airbox layout with carbon Venturi filter housings, smoothly curved intake paths and sealed ducts designed to support more stable airflow and lower intake temperatures.
On the exhaust side, the setup includes the AKRAPOVIČ S-BM/T/3H Slip-On Line Titanium and the AKRAPOVIČ E-BM/T/5 Evolution Link Pipe Set Titanium. This combination reduces weight, improves exhaust flow and gives the S55 a sharper, more motorsport-oriented character without turning the car into a crude noise project.
Depending on the vehicle specification and OPF/GPF configuration, the Evolution Link Pipe setup may require appropriate ECU calibration and may affect road legality in some markets.
Because power means heat, the drivetrain was also supported with a genuine BMW Motorsport differential cooling solution selected to help stabilize differential temperature during sustained track use. Fluids were upgraded with RED LINE OIL 5W50 Motor Oil, RED LINE OIL 75W140 GL-5 Gear Oil and RED LINE OIL WaterWetter. This is the kind of support hardware that makes the difference between a powerful car and a car that can actually stay consistent during demanding track use.
Suspension and Geometry: ÖHLINS, EIBACH and MILLWAY
Power is only useful if the chassis can handle it. The factory BMW M2 Competition suspension is good for spirited road use, but once sticky tires and serious pace are introduced, the car needs more control.
The suspension was upgraded with ÖHLINS BMS MR40 Road & Track DFV. For this project, the dampers were paired with a custom EIBACH race spring setup: 140 N/mm main springs and 26 N/mm tender springs. This gives the car a more focused platform for track use, with better control of pitch, roll and load transfer.
Geometry is just as important as damping. The car uses MILLWAY Camber Plates, allowing more aggressive front-end alignment. On track, this helps the front tires work properly under load, improves turn-in and reduces outer shoulder wear.
This is where the BMW M2 Competition F87 starts to change character. Instead of feeling like a powerful road car being pushed beyond its comfort zone, it starts to feel like a car built around the front axle, the brake pedal and the corner entry.
Wheels and Tires: Reducing Unsprung Mass
Unsprung mass matters. The lighter and stronger the wheel package, the easier it is for the suspension to keep the tire in contact with the road. On a short-wheelbase car like the F87 BMW M2 Competition, this has a direct effect on steering feel, stability and response.

Depending on the track setup, the car runs either forged BBS FI137 / FI138 monoblock wheels in 19x9.5 / 19x10.5 or APEX EC-7 wheels in 19x9.5 / 19x11 Race Silver. Both setups are chosen for strength, fitment and track durability.
The tires include MICHELIN Pilot Sport Cup 2 Connect and MICHELIN Pilot Super Sport, depending on usage. MICHELIN Cup 2 Connect gives the car the mechanical grip needed for serious track sessions, while MICHELIN Pilot Super Sport remains a strong option for aggressive road and mixed-use driving.
The wheel package is completed with EIBACH Pro-Spacers and A.I.TECH wheel studs and nuts, improving fitment, serviceability and wheel change efficiency during track use.
Braking System: PFC Rotors, Racing Pads and ARD Hardware
A fast BMW M2 Competition F87 needs a brake system that can take repeated punishment. With more power, sticky tires and higher corner entry speeds, the factory brake package quickly becomes one of the main areas to upgrade.
This build uses PFC Replacement Brake Rotors in 378x35 mm. PFC rotors are known for thermal capacity, consistent friction behavior and serviceability under track conditions.
The braking package is supported by ARD Brake Caliper Brackets designed for AP RACING CP9660 / CP9668 applications, along with ARD Rotor Hats. This allows the braking system to work with motorsport-grade hardware while maintaining correct fitment and rigidity.
Depending on the session type, disc pairing and driver preference, the car can run either PFC 331 or PAGID RSC1 pads. Brake lines were upgraded with FISCHER and BMW OEM Stainless Steel Brake Line Kits to improve pedal consistency.
The system runs high-performance brake fluids: FERODO and PFC Racing Brake Fluid. The result is not just stronger braking. It is braking that remains easier to repeat lap after lap, which is what really matters on circuit.
Interior, Safety and Driver Control
The cabin was reworked with the same logic as the rest of the car: remove unnecessary weight, improve driver position and add proper safety equipment.
The rear seats were removed and replaced with an ARD 4-Point Roll Cage and an ARD Rear Seat Delete Carpet. This improves safety, reduces weight and gives the car a more focused track layout.
The driver and passenger sit in RECARO Pole Position Seats, secured with SCHROTH PROFI II-FE ASM 4-Point Harnesses and SCHROTH T-Bar Crutch Strap. On track, this makes a major difference. The driver no longer has to brace against the steering wheel or center console and can focus on steering, braking and throttle inputs.
Driver control is also improved with AUTOTECKNIC Competition Steering Shift Levers and AUTOTECKNIC Red M1/M2 Buttons. These are small details, but on a track-focused car, the controls you touch every lap matter.
Aero and Carbon Bodywork
This build does not chase extreme aero for the sake of appearance. The carbon components were chosen to reduce weight, sharpen the car visually and support stability at speed.
The front-end weight is reduced with a BMW OEM Carbon Hood. At the rear, the car uses a BMW OEM M Performance Carbon Rear Trunk Spoiler and an AKRAPOVIČ Rear Carbon Fiber Diffuser Matte. The setup is completed with an AKRAPOVIČ Carbon Fiber Mirror Cap Set Matte.
The result is a cleaner, lighter and more focused exterior without turning the car into an over-styled show build.
Verdict: A Sharper and More Honest BMW M2 Competition
This BMW M2 Competition F87 has moved far beyond the factory “baby M” concept. It is still compact, aggressive and playful, but now it has the hardware to support serious track use.
The TTE740+ turbochargers give the S55 real power potential. ÖHLINS, EIBACH and MILLWAY give the chassis the precision it needs. PFC, PAGID, FERODO and AP RACING-compatible hardware make braking repeatable. RECARO, SCHROTH and the ARD cage make the cockpit suitable for proper driving.
The result is not simply a faster BMW M2 Competition. It is a more complete car: sharper on turn-in, stronger under braking, more stable under load and more consistent deep into a track session.
