The Nissan GT-R R35 has never been a delicate machine. It is a heavy, powerful, twin-turbocharged all-wheel-drive platform built around one clear idea: putting serious performance onto the road with remarkable efficiency. But when the same car is used for repeated hard laps on circuit, the priorities change. Straight-line speed is no longer enough. The real challenge becomes temperature control, brake stability, oil management and repeatable performance.
This white Nissan GT-R R35 came to ATOMIC-SHOP with a clear purpose: to become more consistent during demanding track use. The project was not about visual styling or chasing a single dyno number. It was about addressing the systems that suffer most under sustained load - the GR6 dual-clutch transmission, the VR38DETT lubrication system, the braking package, tires, suspension and driver support.
The result is a more focused R35 track setup built around proven components from HKS, AMS, DODSON, PFC, DBA, ADVAN, MICHELIN, SWIFT, RED LINE OIL and other performance brands.

Why the Nissan GT-R R35 Needs Thermal Management on Track
The R35 GT-R is fast out of the box, but it is also a complex and heavy performance car. With a curb weight of around 1,700 kg, twin turbochargers, all-wheel drive and a rear-mounted GR6 transaxle, it places serious thermal load on the drivetrain during track sessions.
On the street, these systems usually operate within a more forgiving window. On circuit, the situation is different. Long full-throttle sections, repeated braking zones, high lateral load and short recovery periods all push the car harder than normal road use. Transmission oil temperature rises, engine oil control becomes more important, brakes absorb huge amounts of heat, and tires must carry the load of a heavy, high-power chassis.
For this reason, the core of the project was not power. It was stability.
GR6 Transmission Cooling: HKS, ARD and DODSON Upgrades
One of the best-known areas of concern on a track-driven Nissan GT-R R35 is the GR6 dual-clutch transmission. Under repeated hard use, the transmission can generate high oil temperatures, especially during longer sessions or in hot conditions. If the temperature rises too far, the car may enter a protection strategy to reduce load on the gearbox.
To reduce this risk, the GT-R was upgraded with an HKS DCT Cooler. The purpose of this component is simple: increase the cooling capacity of the transmission oil system and help keep the GR6 operating in a more stable temperature range during sustained use.
The transmission package was further supported by an ARD Transmission Oil Pan and DODSON components, including an anti-surge plate, transmission pan filter, differential scoop and input shaft seals. These upgrades help improve fluid control, service reliability and the overall durability of the drivetrain package under demanding use.
This is an important distinction: the goal is not to claim that the transmission can never overheat in any condition. The goal is to give the GR6 a stronger thermal and mechanical support package so the car can perform more consistently during track driving.
VR38DETT Oil Control and Fuel Temperature Stability
The VR38DETT engine is one of the defining elements of the GT-R R35. It delivers strong torque, responds well to tuning and has proven itself in many high-performance builds. But on track, oil control and fluid temperature management become critical.
To support the engine under sustained lateral load, the car received an AMS CNC deep wet sump oil pan. This upgrade increases oil capacity and helps improve oil control during high-G cornering, reducing the risk of oil starvation in demanding conditions.
An AMS Fuel Cooler kit was also added to help stabilize fuel temperature under extended load. In high-performance applications, fuel temperature can become a real concern, especially when upgraded pumps and prolonged high-load operation are involved. Keeping the fuel system more stable helps support consistent delivery and reduces one of the heat-related risks during track use.
The package was completed with HKS spark plugs and an HKS SS Centre Pipe with silencer. The centre pipe improves the exhaust path and gives the VR38DETT a more purposeful character without turning the project into a power-only build.
Additional protection was added through THERMO-TEC heat sleeves and DEI Quick Fix Tape. These components help shield critical lines and surrounding areas from excessive heat in the engine bay and underbody zones.
Brake Upgrade: PFC, DBA, DODSON and PAGID RACING Brake Fluid
A track-driven GT-R needs brakes that can handle repeated high-speed stops. The R35 is powerful and heavy, which means the brake system has to absorb a large amount of energy every lap. On a long session, the main challenge is not just peak stopping power, but pedal consistency, heat capacity and fade resistance.
For the front axle, the car was upgraded with PFC brake discs and PFC 08 compound race pads. PFC 08 is a proven endurance-oriented racing compound, well suited to applications where consistent friction and predictable behavior over repeated stops are more important than comfort or low dust.
The rear axle received DBA 5000-series brake discs paired with PFC rear race pads. This creates a more track-focused braking package while keeping the system serviceable and suitable for demanding use.
Brake cooling was addressed with the DODSON R35 Brake Cooling Kit. This helps direct airflow toward the brake system and reduce heat build-up around the rotors, pads and hubs. The brake fluid was upgraded to PAGID RACING Brake Fluid, a high-boiling-point motorsport fluid selected for better resistance to heat-related pedal degradation.
The aim of this brake package is not to create an unrealistic “fade-proof” system. The aim is to improve thermal capacity, pedal consistency and braking confidence during repeated circuit use.
ADVAN GT Wheels, Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 Tires and Swift Springs
The Nissan GT-R R35 places high demands on tires and wheels. Any improvement in wheel strength, tire fitment and suspension response has a direct effect on how the car behaves under braking, cornering and acceleration.
For this build, the factory wheels were replaced with forged ADVAN GT Premium wheels in Racing Titanium Blue. The setup uses 20x10 ET35 at the front and 20x12 ET20 at the rear. This gives the car a wider and more purposeful footprint while reducing weight compared with many factory-style wheel options.
The wheels were paired with MICHELIN Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires in a staggered track-focused setup: 285/35 R20 on the front axle and 325/30 R20 on the rear axle. This combination gives the GT-R more mechanical grip and better support for high-speed cornering, while still remaining suitable for serious performance road and track use.
MUTEKI SR45R lug nuts complete the wheel package.
To improve chassis response, the car received SWIFT Springs Sport Spec R. These springs lower the ride height, reduce body movement and make the car feel more immediate during direction changes. On a heavy AWD platform like the R35, this type of upgrade helps the driver feel the car more clearly without changing the entire suspension system.

Aerodynamics: AeroMotions and Stillen Components
At high speed, aerodynamic balance becomes increasingly important. The GT-R already has a strong factory base, but for track use, additional aero support can help improve stability and driver confidence.
The rear of the car was upgraded with an AeroMotions 10" R.Static wing. This adds rear aero support and helps the car feel more settled at higher speeds. The package is complemented by a STILLEN front lip spoiler and side skirt set, helping refine airflow around the front and sides of the car.
These upgrades also give the R35 a more aggressive visual presence, but their main role in this build is functional: supporting stability during fast circuit driving.

Cockpit and Safety: RECARO, ATOMIC and OMP
Inside the cabin, the focus shifted from grand touring comfort to driver control. The factory seats were replaced with RECARO Pole Position buckets in black velour. For track driving, proper driver support is not a luxury — it allows the driver to stay stable under braking and cornering instead of bracing against the steering wheel.
The seats were installed using TECNOCRAFT and ATOMIC seat brackets. This creates a more focused cockpit position and helps the driver feel more connected to the chassis.
A 2 kg aluminium OMP fire extinguisher was also added as a practical safety upgrade for track-day use.
