The transmission in the 2013-2018 Dodge Ram 6.7L Cummins is responsible for transmitting up to 930 lb-ft of torque from the engine to the wheels. This level of power generates significant heat, which must be dissipated to prevent transmission damage. The transmission cooler helps maintain proper fluid temperatures, but only if the fluid can reach it.

The stock cooling systems of both the 68-RFE and Aisin AS69RC use an in-line thermal bypass valve to control fluid flow to the transmission cooler. This valve prevents fluid from flowing to the cooler until it reaches operating temperature. However, the thermostat inside the stock valve is prone to failure, which can prevent fluid from reaching the cooler and lead to overheating.

The Mishimoto CNC-machined aluminum thermal bypass valve offers improved performance and durability over the stock unit. It features a replaceable thermostat that opens about 10°F earlier than the stock thermostat, allowing fluid to flow to the cooler sooner without overcooling. For hot climates, a bypass is included to allow full flow to the cooler regardless of temperature, and it can be easily swapped with a wrench. Cooling fins machined into the valve body further enhance heat dissipation. The kit is finished with a durable black anodized coating.

Recommendation: Mishimoto does not recommend customers in cold climates install the thermostat bypass to avoid overcooling of the transmission fluid.
