BMW continues to set the standard for performance luxury vehicles, with the F8X generation maintaining this reputation. The S55 engine powering the 2015-2020 BMW F8X M3, M4, and M2 Competition features advanced technology, including an air-to-water intercooling system for effective cooling.

While BMW's original intercooler design supports the performance of these mid-sized M models, Mishimoto identified areas for improvement. The Mishimoto Performance Air-to-Water Intercooler is equipped with full cast aluminum end tanks, TIG welded to a bar-and-plate core for enhanced durability under increased boost. Internal air diverters on both the inlet and outlet promote even airflow through the core.

The core size has been expanded in all dimensions, resulting in a 29% increase in core volume without requiring installation modifications. The new core features a single-pass internal fin layout for the coolant passage, optimizing heat transfer from charged air to coolant. Testing showed a 16% increase in airflow through the core and a 12°F reduction in intake air temperatures when paired with the Mishimoto Performance Heat Exchanger. Power gains averaged 11whp and 8wtq, with peak increases of up to 31whp and 10wtq. The micro-wrinkle black finish and sleek header plate design ensure the intercooler fits seamlessly in the engine bay.

Installation Notes: 27 in-lbs (3NM) recommended for all T-bolt and constant-tension T-bolt clamps. These clamps have an operating range of 18-35 in-lbs (2-4NM). Do not exceed the maximum torque rating of 35 in-lbs (4NM).
