While BMW's intercooling system supports peak performance, Mishimoto identified areas for improvement. The Mishimoto 2015-2020 BMW F8X M3/M4 Performance Intercooler Power Pack addresses weaknesses in BMW's design, starting with the charge pipes. Factory plastic charge pipes are prone to cracking under pressure or splitting at the seams, which can be problematic during operation. Mishimoto's redesigned charge pipes use full aluminum construction with a cast mid-section to fit past the intake, and include matte black silicone couplers for a secure connection to the intercooler.

The Mishimoto Performance Air-to-Water Intercooler replaces the factory unit with a design that fits seamlessly in the M3 and M4 engine bay. The new bar-and-plate core offers a 29% increase in core volume and a single-pass coolant flow layout for improved heat transfer. With a 16% increase in flow through the core, testing showed a 12°F drop in intake air temperatures when using the full Power Pack. The system also includes a performance heat exchanger and stone guard for comprehensive cooling upgrades.
