This project is a true manifesto of engineering fanaticism. The 718 CAYMAN GT4 RS stands alone as the ultimate, unfiltered rebel of the PORSCHE family, engineered to shatter conventional design hierarchies. Bolting a high-revving, 500-hp motorsport engine into a razor-sharp mid-engine chassis and placing the air intakes right next to the driver's ears was a stroke of genius.
The GT4 RS is categorically not a vehicle you want to daily drive through city traffic. A single lap without a racing helmet makes one thing painfully clear: this is an uncompromising track weapon.
The defining feature of the cabin is the carbon fiber air intake, positioned exactly where the rear quarter windows used to be - literally inches from the driver's head. When you wring this engine out to its 9,000 RPM redline, the combination of induction howl and exhaust shriek creates a deafening, violent auditory assault. It is so punishingly loud inside the cockpit that holding a conversation is impossible without a dedicated intercom system. On the circuit, this raw mechanical scream delivers pure adrenaline, but for public roads, it is relentlessly, beautifully excessive.
Taking the PORSCHE 718 CAYMAN GT4 RS out for its first stint on the iconic Nordschleife instantly reveals the raw nature of its mid-engine layout. The chassis feels incredibly alive, eagerly rotating around its axis and carving into apexes with surgical precision. But as the pace intensifies and you push for real lap times, engineering compromises surface. Unlike its rear-engine big brother, which relies on a highly advanced multi-link suspension setup, the GT4 RS utilizes MacPherson struts on both the front and rear axles. Because of this, at ultra-high speeds, the car's behavior can feel significantly less planted than the flagship 911 - to the point where it gets genuinely intimidating behind the wheel.
However, at ATOMIC-SHOP, we know that when it comes to the limit on track, even an "RS" badge has room for refinement. For this Blue GT4 RS, we focused on the essentials to cure this instability: mechanical grip and transparent feedback. We stripped away the electronic filters of the factory setup and replaced them with pure, motorsport-grade hardware.
Suspension: The OHLINS MR10 Gold Standard
The factory PASM adaptive suspension is engineered for dual-purpose road and track use, which introduces compromises in high-load circuit environments. To maximize chassis response and permanently resolve high-speed float on brutal straights, we replaced it with the motorsport-spec OHLINS POF MR10 TTX damper kit.
This upgrade introduces professional twin-tube (TTX) technology, bypassing electronic interpolation in favor of pure mechanical precision. Featuring inverted strut architecture and motorsport-grade valving, the OHLINS TTX setup eliminates latency, delivering immediate damper response and the high-speed geometric stability required for sustained track duty.

The Geometry of Victory: MANTHEY RACING Kit
Fortunately, any factory engineering shortfalls are quickly rectified with track-proven solutions. In this configuration from the MANTHEY RACING package (specifically the Stock Suspension refinement / Setup Upgrade), we exclusively utilize the mechanical kinematics hardware. This is a mandatory step to unlock 100% of the potential and hydraulic bandwidth of the ÖHLINS dampers. The factory components are simply not engineered for the extreme lateral loads generated by this race-bred platform.
This MANTHEY RACING track-focused upgrade consists of two critical phases that ensure the car "plants" itself perfectly into corners and responds to steering inputs with absolute predictability:
1. Alignment Hardware: Uncompromised Kinematics
The factory CAYMAN GT4 RS geometry is physically incapable of achieving the aggressive camber and toe angles demanded by high-load 140 N/mm springs and inverted TTX struts. To eliminate the elasticity of the stock suspension, we introduce motorsport-grade components:
- MANTHEY RACING Front Top Mounts: Race-spec adjustable upper mounts that replace compliant factory rubber with rigid spherical bearings (Uniball). They eliminate strut top deflection under extreme loads, keeping the front suspension geometry completely stable during hard cornering.
- MANTHEY RACING Adjustable Rear Tie/Toe Rods: True motorsport components where compliant rubber bushings are also replaced by rigid spherical bearings. They completely eradicate parasitic rear toe deflection under extreme lateral cornering forces.
- Camber Shims Kit: A set of precision-machined plates (3mm, 7mm, and 10mm thick). These integrate directly into the split Porsche lower control arms, mechanically widening the track and allowing the front axle to achieve an aggressive, track-ready camber range of -3.0° to -3.5°.
2. The Proprietary Setup: Track Oriented Geometry
The true value of Manthey's engineering for factory hardware lies in their proprietary calibration data and Nürburgring-proven alignment specs. To perfectly integrate the Öhlins TTX architecture with the stiffer springs, specialists calculate a bespoke balance:
- Dialed-In Caster: Precise correction of the caster angle is critical. When significantly increasing camber via shims, this ensures the wheel remains perfectly centered in the wheel well and prevents rubbing against the fender liner at full steering lock.
- Ride Height and Corner Balancing: Surgical adjustment of the front and rear ride heights. This guarantees optimal weight distribution across all four wheels and consistent aerodynamic loading.
- Anti-Roll Bar Calibration: Step-by-step tuning of sway bar stiffness to perfectly synchronize with the significantly stiffer new springs. The chassis sheds excess body roll without sacrificing mechanical grip.
The Art of Deceleration: PAGID RSC1
The Blue GT4 RS gains speed with frightening efficiency, and the brakes must match that pace. We replaced the factory pads with PAGID RSC1 (4927 front / 4925 rear).
The RSC1 compound is engineered specifically for track day enthusiasts. These pads provide perfect modulation: you feel exactly when the tires are about to lock, allowing you to meter the pressure with surgical precision. They are fade-resistant and maintain a consistent friction coefficient lap after lap. No "mushy" pedal feel - just a solid, transparent connection.
Verdict: The Perfect Balance
This Blue Cayman GT4 RS has evolved beyond being the "little brother" of the 911. Thanks to the OHLINS suspension, MANTHEY RACING Front Top Mounts and Tie/Toe Rods, and the reliability of PAGID pads, it has become a precision weapon. It is stiffer, more communicative, and infinitely faster where others begin to hesitate.
